I am an oncosurgeon and based in Bangalore for the past 30 years. I have been instrumental in establishing the first ever Head and Neck oncology unit at Kidwai Memorial Institute Of Oncology, Bangalore, in the year 1984, establishing the first Oncology unit in corporate at Manipal Institute, Bangalore. I received my oncology training at the Tata Memorial Centre, Mumbai, Institute Gustave Roussy, Paris and Memorial Sloan Kettering Centre, New York.

It gives me great pleasure in writing about Mr Milind Kher whose keen interest in medicine and deep empathy for the indisposed goes beyond just formal exposure and obtaining degrees, as I have first hand experience of his extraordinary talent in dealing with the sick and disabled.

I happen to operate on his mother who had to undergo major abdominal surgery. Being about 80 years of age, she could not be brought to my center in Bangalore and had to perform the surgery in Pune. In the post operative period it was Milind who not only took care as a loving caring son but to my utter surprise gave me valuable inputs on daily basis, gave his mother moral courage, made her believe in herself and my abilities as surgeon to come out of this successfully.

It was purely on his intelligent observations that I could monitor her condition from Bangalore and bring her back to normal. Many a times his observations proved to be more correct and pertinent than the local doctors in charge.

I have no doubt that though not a formally trained doctor, his grasp of illness and its effect on people is at par with the best in the business if not better. His initiative in this regard is highly appreciable and I am sure many patients will benefit from his efforts in this regard.
